Well, I finally did it. I clicked Publish in Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). It can take up to 72 hours for the book to be available for purchase so I don't have the link yet.
I probably could have hit publish yesterday but it’s a last step that is in a way daunting to take. I have friends and family who have been anxiously waiting for this first book to come out. No pressure!
After a bit of procrastination this evening, I finally pushed that button.
Since the last post, after I finalized the formatting, there were a few final things to do:
Complete the format review
Final corrections to format (and other errors I never caught after I don’t remember how many reviews)
Complete the KDP account set up (like bank information and tax details)
Complete the details of the book in KDP
Update: website, twitter, Facebook page with published date
So I need to update the website to fix the available date as I had put April 20th since it may be April 21 or 22.
As I’m Canadian, I just uploaded the digital copy to Library and Archives Canada. Quick and easy to register and easy to upload.
Now that the book is being reviewed, there’s no just sitting back and doing nothing. There’s plenty to do, including some things that couldn’t be done until the book was available:
Create my author page on Amazon
Add book on Goodreads (I need the link first)
Monitor/promote
Prepare Resurgence for the print version
Wait for the print proof
Publish the print version
Repeat for the next book everything I did for the first one
Continue to write
I suppose I will take some time to celebrate this milestone. Thankfully, a lot of what I had to do for Resurgence I won’t have to do again. All the website and email set up (and research that went along with it) are activities that needed to be done only once. I haven’t calculated how much time that took along with marketing research but it certainly was quite a while, along with the learning curve of GIMP and formatting to name a few.
If you end up reading Resurgence, I hope you enjoy it.
If you prefer the print version, it will eventually be available. But as the book will be print on demand, its cost will be significantly more than the ebook version.
